Istanbul in Four Seasons: When Should You Visit?
Istanbul can be visited in any season, but each season gives the city a different face. When planning your trip, it is worth considering what you want to do as well as the weather.
Spring
In April, tulips decorate the city's parks, especially Emirgan Grove, making spring Istanbul's most colourful season. Mild weather is ideal for long walks and outdoor sightseeing.
Summer
In summer, the Bosphorus shore, the Princes' Islands and the Black Sea beaches take centre stage. On hot days it is more comfortable to sightsee in the morning and late afternoon, and to spend midday in museums or shaded places.
Autumn
September and October, with mild weather and relatively quiet sights, are the ideal time for many travellers. Autumn colours add extra beauty to Belgrad Forest and the Bosphorus groves.
Winter
In winter, Istanbul takes on a calmer, more local atmosphere. Museums, bazaars and cafes come to the fore, and on snowy days the view of the Historic Peninsula is unforgettable.
