Eyup Sultan and Pierre Loti: Looking Down on the Golden Horn

Located at the far end of the Golden Horn, Eyup is one of Istanbul's most spiritually important districts. Its historic mosque, market and hilltop view of the Golden Horn make it a favourite with locals as well as visitors.

Eyup Sultan Mosque

Eyup Sultan Mosque and its tomb welcome visitors all year round. The mosque courtyard and the surrounding market reflect the calm, deep-rooted atmosphere of the district. Keep the dress code and prayer times in mind when visiting.

Pierre Loti Hill

Named after the French writer Pierre Loti, the hill is famous for its view along the entire Golden Horn. Watching the view over a glass of tea in the hilltop tea garden is the highlight of the trip. You can go up by cable car or walk up the path through the historic cemetery.

The Golden Horn shore

On the way back you can walk through the parks along the Golden Horn and continue to the colourful streets of Balat and Fener to round off the day.

Getting there

Eyup can be reached by Golden Horn ferry or by road. If you want to see Eyup, Balat and Fener by car in a single day, our chauffeured car hire or Istanbul tours will save you time.
